                 FBI and federal immigration agents focus on MS 13 . MS 13 has been known to commit  home invasion robberies, sell drugs ,tax vendors  and aggresivly execute machete attacks on its enemies. As late they seem be getting a lot better at all of the above .      

MS 13 is considered by some as a highly organized paramilitary group, with many members formerly belonging to Salvadoran guerrilla forces. However, FBI spokespersons have alleged that the gang is more like a "loosely structured street gang," and not a highly sophisticated criminal enterprise. MS 13 members operating on Long Island have been reported by law enforcement to fluidly share information with fellow members in Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia. Gang officials have stated that MS 13 is "difficult to track because [members] like to move around," and are "always on the go" (New York Post 1 June 2003).

       MS 13 is a ruthless gang , with ties to the mexican cartels. MS 13 is not under the control of the mexican mafia , they dont run with the south siders in prision.  ms 13 has over 2000 members in el salvador prisons making up 66 % 0f there prision population.

   Over 700 MS 13 members were arrested by law enforcement task forces in 2005 alone, and many of these will likely spend significant prison terms before they are eventually deported back to their homeland. However, criticism has been leveled at the deportation policies of the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which has been viewed as simply using tax payers' money to fund short visits between MS 13 members and their family abroad before they eventually return to the United States illegally. As the Times state, "Deportations have helped create an 'unending chain' of gang members moving between the U.S. and Central America," creating a kind of "merry-go-round" pattern of criminal activity between the two continents (30 Oct 2005 Los Angeles Times).

            The last of 24 MS-13 members swept up on federal firearms charges and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine were sentenced last year in the largest bust since the group emerged there in 2004.
            Ms 13 gang  graffiti has been showing up more frequently Omaha neighborhoods.This has some people there nervous.
They said they're worried that gangsters are moving in, and they want answers  gangs graffiti means.
            The police gang unit agreed to look at video of graffiti found on a wall at 36th and Monroe streets.
"The symbols themselves represent the different gangs that have come through the area," the graffiti belongs to rival gangs "The 18th Street Gang" and "The MS 13 Gang." Both are Hispanic gangs that established themselves in southern California, then spread across the United States, and are now growing in the Omaha area.
"I would say, from looking at it, that particular gang was here first - the 18th Street," . "MS-13 came by and marked over it, put up the 187."
187 stands for homicide.

           In a recent Texas incident, a MS 13 gang member admitted that he had led the gang rape of a 24 year-old woman and then kicked her in the neck with such force that it killed her.  During questioning, the MS-13 member further acknowledged robbing and beating a small child in Houston and to stabbing an Alexander, Texas man three times in an attempt to kill him.  When asked if he though murdering someone elevated his status within the gang he replied:

Hell Yeah.  The crazier you are known to be, the more respect the gang gives you.  In my gang, my street name is "psycho".

Albuquerque Police say they’re in a new kind of war against a new kind of gang. This comes in the aftermath of last weekend’s deadly restaurant robbery. The gang is MS-13, with blood-soaked roots in El Salvador and Los Angeles, and it’s finally shown up in New Mexico with nine recent armed robberies credited to the gang. Albuquerque police say they are ready for the gang.
New Mexico’s MS-13 poster boy is Francisco Melgar, currently at large for last weekend’s armed robbery and murder. Cops think he may be in Mexico.
Police say two more likely MS-13 members, Marvin Lopez Aguilar and Pablo Ortiz, are in custody. Like Melgar, they are illegal immigrants from El Salvador, they say.
Cops say the three, and maybe one more, invaded a west side Denny’s in broad daylight last Saturday morning, armed with handguns and assault-style rifles, to rob the place. In the robbery, they killed 34-year-old restaurant employee Stephanie Anderson.

    

                 Until recently, MS 13 wasn’t that big a player in New York gang culture. The reason for its weak position in the East Coast crime world was obvious: It wasn’t very well organized. MS 13 in the beginning was just a group of cliques that operated independently of each other. That is no longer. Police report that ms 13  gang members from across the country have come together to unite affiliated groups . The leadership for these ms 13 gang cliques is now coming from as far away as California and even from El Salvador. This uniting of the ms 13 gang is having a devastating effect on New York. “The cliques, instead of operating independently of each other, are beginning to come together” . “The difference is by doing that, obviously you have a much tighter organization, and much stronger structures and, instead of having various cliques doing whatever they want, wherever they want, there is one individual who is the leader and is able to control  the criminal acts they engage in. The result is very, very similar to what you would see in what we refer to as traditional crime families.”
               Buffalo police issued a warning to all residents . that MS 13 gang could be planning initiation activities which includes acts of violence. The warning involves gang members rear-ending motorists and then robbing the driver. To randomly killing someone.

On Friday night, July 19, two rival gangs met up in a tiny Seattle park. Just before midnight, the meeting turned violent. "Words were exchanged," according to the police report, and a member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang, clad in a black shirt, shot a 19-year-old member of the United Latino gang in the chest. One of the 19-year-old's friends shot back several times, apparently missing the Mara Salvatrucha gang member.

But the police have seen the Mara Salvatrucha gang in other parts of town, like Pioneer Square's Occidental Park. The gang, made up mostly of El Salvadorians--the name means "Forever Salvador"--is an offshoot of a Los Angeles gang. A July 30 police memo that calls Mara Salvatrucha "very violent" says the gang has been on SPD radar since mid 2000. But the gang presence in Crown Hill is apparently new.

Meanwhile, Crown Hill residents are on edge. Folks who live in the otherwise peaceful neighborhood--full of modest single-family homes with small but neat lawns--are reluctant to discuss the shootings. Mike Donohue, owner of Bob Johnson's pharmacy on NW 85th Street at 14th Avenue NW--halfway between the two shootings--says he's heard bits and pieces about the incidents. "From what I heard, there was a new gang in town, and [police] think that's what's been going on," Donohue says. He's noticed an increased police presence in the neighborhood, mostly in unmarked cars.

               The MS-13 gang, known for cutting off victims' limbs, murder and drug trafficking, has about 150 members in Southern Nevada, but they're not as active as other gangs, authorities said Tuesday.Salinas said one reason MS 13 doesn't have a large presence might be the historic conflicts that the Salvadoran-based gang has with Mexican gang members, who are more active in Southern Nevada.
In the past two years, he said, MS-13 members have been involved in graffiti, a stabbing and a road rage incident.
Nationally, the gang is known for extorting immigrants and others, killing rivals and drug trafficking.
      LAS VEGAS-     The most violent gang of the bunch in Las Vegas is MS-13, more of a paramilitary group than a mere gang. It's made up primarily of ex-soldiers from Central America, especially El Salvador. MS-13 is believed responsible for thousands of murders. They're suspected of working with Al Quaeda to smuggle terrorists into the U.S. And because of their military training, they are often hired as assassins or muscle by the Colombian cartels or Mexican mafia.
             Close to 150 MS-13 members are known to be in Las Vegas. They've committed murders here, including the recent kidnap and slaying of a former gang member. They are a force in our jails, and like the other gangs, are bold enough to use the Internet as a recruitment tool and medium to brag.

               MS-13 has been active in Northern Virginia since the early 1990s. But concern about gangs escalated among the public and politicians after a series of violent attacks in 2004, including the slaying of a Herndon teenager by two MS-13 members and a machete attack on a member of another gang by three MS-13 members in the Alexandria area.

Law enforcement sources said the investigation of MS-13 remains active and is aimed at using broad federal racketeering statutes once employed against the Mafia. Investigators said they believe that their efforts have driven much of MS-13's criminal activity underground and that the level of violence has diminished.

"I think it's had a great impact on them," said one investigator, who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly. "Just look around. We don't see MS-13 having public meetings in parks like we did, or displaying their colors walking around in the streets."

Among the most highly publicized MS-13 attacks was the 2003 slaying of Brenda Paz, a 17-year-old government witness who was pregnant when her body was found on the banks of the Shenandoah River.
             
 Prosecutors said an MS-13 member and friend of Paz's told authorities about the conspiracy that led to the conviction of Turcios-Lazo.Erick Turcios-Lazo was convicted in federal court in Alexandria in January of helping to put out a "green light" -- code for an order to kill -- on the female member of the gang because she was suspected of cooperating with law enforcement. He headed the Silvas Locos Salvatrucha, one of about a dozen MS-13 cliques in Northern Virginia, and was the gang's second highest-ranking member in the region, officials said.

           CANADA-    Beyond the borders of its Los Angeles and Central American origins, the gang is now active in 33 U.S. states, several European nations -- and Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, and to a lesser extent, Edmonton and Calgary .Local Canadian police agencies are now fearing a surge in violence as MS-13 -- a gang known for beheading its victims -- starts clashing with rival street gangs.the first MS-13 member was arrested in Vancouver in 1997, but over the past four years, the number of MS-13 gang members identified by Vancouver police has increased and the number of drug houses raided has risen.

               The Toronto chapter of MS-13 has a presence in the west side of the city's downtown region.It has remained true to its roots and is comprised almost exclusively of young men of Latin American origin. They are just so bold and so young and they make dreadful mistakes trying to establish themselves,Those mistakes are increasingly causing alarm in Toronto as innocent bystanders are being caught in the crossfire.

JUST IN NASHVILLE
The indictment further alleges that ms 13 gang was organized in "cliques," including the Thompson Place Locos Salvatruchos clique (TPLS), which operates in Nashville.
• During the last two years, 20 MS 13 members pleaded guilty on charges ranging from murder to rape .
 Nashville, MS-13 started growing there about five years ago, along with an influx of immigrant labor.
Last April, county officials began checking the immigration status of all arrestees. "We know we have removed about 100 gang members, including MS-13," to U.S. authorities for deportation, Whch to us barely puts a dent in their poppulation here.

Columbus gang officers said MS-13’s presence in central Ohio is growing. Last year, the area’s leader, Nelson Flores, was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for reentering the United States after he had been deported. He was kicked out of the country after he was convicted in connection with a drive-by shooting in Nevada.

Flores was known as "El Mula" ("The Mule") in a drug ring that flourished here.
Arrested after a traffic accident, Flores told Jim Sandford, a Columbus police gang unit detective: "We (MS-13) will own this town in four years."
